Digital camera advice?

Okay, so I'm extremely anal when shopping for something expensive or that I would consider an investment. I've been saving money up for compact digital camera and now I have enough. But I'm having trouble decided between three of them:

  1. Sony Cybershot DSC-T100
  2. Canon SD1000
  3. Canon PowerShot SD850 IS

If anyone has used any of these cameras can you let me know how you like it. I'm looking for one with a short shutter lag, takes good quality pictures in outdoor and indoor lighting, and is compact. All of these seem to fit the bill and I can't make up my mind. I know I'm obsessing a bit much but I know that I'll have this for a long, long time and want to get the right one.

Any input? I know the chances are slim that anyone actually has one of these since there are so many out there but I had to ask.

  1. Not that I know anything about these current cameras but I have a Canon S200 that is about 5 years old and I've loved every photo from it. The thing I have noticed is the cameras around the time I bought mine did have a bit of a shutter lag but that was because it autofocuses. The flash on mine isn't too bright inside and doesn't bleach people out. And the pictures with outdoor lighting are absolutely wonderful. If you have facebook, find me. All the photos up on it are from my little canon. Because i've had great luck with it, I don't think I stray far from Canons.

Oh and if you are worried about shutter lag. Go to a store that carries them and try some out. If retailers don't carry those models there are camera store in one of the malls (i want to say Ritz but i'm not sure). They should have the cameras and cards so you can play in the store.

  2. I just bought the SD850 last weekend for $285. It was only a 2 day sale.. but if you look around there are some good deals starting to come around on this camera. I did alot of research and concluded that the sd850 was the best point and shoot small digicam on the market. I know 5 people who have the SD700 and they have nothing but good things to say about that camera. The SD850 is the true replacement for the SD700.

  3. I have the SD1000 and absolutely adore it. My brother sells cameras at Best buy and he recommended it. My partner has the SD850 which is even better because unlike the 1000 it has an image stabilizer which helps take nice photos at night.

Both good, the extra $$ is for the IS. The advantage of the 1000 is the size. So cute.

  5. Whatever choice you make, make sure you get Image Stabilizer.
